Surrey RCMP are investigating after a body was found in a water-filled ditch on the side of 176 Street in South Surrey Saturday.
Local resident Kate MacPhee said her son and his friends were walking by when they noticed what appeared to be a dead body off the side of the road near 36 Ave. After checking it out herself, MacPhee called police.
Police say the body has been in the water for some time and its head had become separated from its body.
They were not yet able to identify if foul play was suspected.
The Major Crimes Unit and the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team were called in to investigate.
176 Street has been closed at 32 Avenue for northbound traffic and will remain closed for some time.
