A youth was arrested Wednesday night after money was stolen from a poppy box in High River, Alta.

RCMP said the youth has been released into the custody of his parents as charges are pending against him.

Mounties said the theft happened at the Heritage Inn Tuesday at around 7:30 p.m.

The person allegedly stole the box from the front counter and removed $50 before throwing the poppies on the ground and running away.

High River is about 60 kilometres south of Calgary.
