It’s a charity challenge with a twist, because chances are you’re going to get punched in the face.
Two dozen brave beginner boxers are stepping into the ring next week in a fundraising fight for the United Way.
The event, Boxing for the Community, is the brainchild of Kelowna’s UFC Gym and the John Howard Society.
The idea of charity boxing may seem like a strange fit for a non-profit that supports many anti-violence groups.
However, those who came up with the idea have seen positive impacts from participating in the sport.
“They also talked about how boxing for them…. helped transform their lives physically and mentally and made them stronger. They wanted to provide that lifetime experience for other people,” said Ian Gerbrandt with the United Way.
The event runs next Thursday at the Laurel Packinghouse.
