RCMP say alcohol could be a factor in a crash that sent a Winnipeg woman to the hospital over the weekend.

Around 4:15 a.m. Saturday, RCMP came across a vehicle in the north ditch of Roblin Boulevard in the Rural Municipality of Headingley.

The car heading eastbound hit a driveway, flipped into the ditch and struck a light pole and a large tree.

A 24-year-old man, who was the driver, managed to get out of the vehicle. A 25-year-old woman, who was the passenger, was trapped inside and had to be extricated.

She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, and is currently in stable condition. The driver and passenger were both from Winnipeg.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts but alcohol is believed to be a factor, RCMP said.
