It was an emotional night as people in Lethbridge gathered at Henderson Lake Park to attend a vigil for a 25-year-old woman fighting for her life.
Two weeks ago today, the woman was viciously attacked in the early morning on her way to work.
Lethbridge police have since charged 20-year-old Blood Tribe member Denzel Bird in connection with the brutal assault.

Bill Fox organized the vigil to show solidarity with the victim.
“It could be anyone’s daughter, anyone’s mother or sister – and it really it home… there was so much negative spin on it against that individual (Bird), I really wanted to take the focus away from that and focus on helping (the victim),” Fox said.

A round dance was held prior to the vigil at Galt Gardens. It was put on by Communities Unity to help raise awareness about discriminatory comments made after the incident.
“I just hope to be able to have it as an example, to show that we can do this and if we keep working together at this, we can hopefully work together for the future to be more unified in our communities,” Communities Unity spokesperson Lori Brave Rock said.

In the family’s latest Facebook post on Thursday afternoon, they said doctors say the victim will likely stay in hospital for at least six months to a year, or possibly longer.
