WINNIPEG — An experimental sound and performance installation art piece along the banks of the Seine River attracted Winnipegers to jump in to their canoes Saturday.

The Long Take Collective along with seven collaborators got together to put the event on for the second year.

The From the Seat of a Canoe event was an opportunity for Winnipegers to connect to their city through both art and nature.

“It’s about taking people in to a dream space that questions the relationship between the wilderness and subconscious,” said Organizer, Leigh Anne Parry.

The one day event was inspired by Parry’s fascination of warping time and place and her experience paddling the Seine River.

Guests were invited to sign up for different times to head out in their own canoe, kayak, or one of the fleet provided canoes throughout the day as they took part in the adventure down the urban waterway.

Parry said the event has been worked on and planned for the better part of five years. It included 22 performers and eight sound installations.
