Video has surfaced online of a Greenville, Miss. teacher allegedly dragging a special needs student by her hair and holding her down aggressively.
According to NBC affiliate WLBT, the footage was taken by a fellow student at Greenville High School.
The beginning of the video appeared to show the teacher holding down the female student, who was reported to have a mental and/or physical disability of some sort, and then grabbing her by the hair and dragging her across the gymnasium floor.
Another student was also seen pointing and laughing at the female victim.
WLBT also reported that a second video showed “the teacher hitting the student in the head with an unidentified object.”
Global News has not seen the second video nor can confirm such action took place.
The town’s mayor said in a statement on Oct. 7 that the footage raised questions about “staff professionalism and the safety and treatment of our student.”
The statement continued to read in part:
“Rest assured that all impacted individuals are aware of this situation and the school district has already begun to take appropriate actions to continue its efforts to guarantee the safety, protection, and integrity of our educational environment.”
Local police are investigating the incident.
Global News has reached out to the Greenville Police Department but did not receive a response by time of publication.
