The Independent Investigations Office (IIO), the agency that investigates police involved deaths, is looking into a fatality in Kelowna.
Emergency responders were called to the Bennett clock tower Wednesday afternoon, where a man in his mid 40s was in some sort of medical distress.
He was taken to hospital where he later passed away. Kelowna RCMP say they’ve referred the matter to the independent investigations office for assessment because the deceased had been released from police custody about eight hours before the incident.
The coroners service says there’s no indication of homicide or suicide but the circumstances suggest a possible drug overdose.
