One lucky hockey fan at the next Edmonton Oil Kings home game might go home with a pretty hefty prize after the 50/50 jackpot went unclaimed at the team’s season opener.

The Sept. 24 game against the Red Deer Rebels marked the first time the Oil Kings had sold out a contest in modern franchise history. A whopping 18,102 hockey fans took in the game at Rogers Place.

Those fans bought in on 50/50 tickets in droves, pushing the jackpot up to $27,142.50. The winning ticket for the jackpot went unclaimed, which means the prize money will be rolled over to the team’s next home game.

“If it’s not the highest (in team history) it’ll definitely be up there,” Rob Thomas, a spokesperson with the Edmonton Oil Kings said of the next jackpot. “That’s the take home that’s not even the full amount.”

The Oil Kings’ next home game is on Friday, Oct. 7 against the Kelowna Rockets. The game isn’t sold out yet; tickets are still available on the Oil Kings’ website.

The previous Oil Kings attendance record was set on March 10, 2012 at Rexall Place when 16,651 hockey fans took in the game. Rexall Place, now Northlands Coliseum, had the capacity to hold 16,839 fans during a hockey game.
