Following her performance at the Apple Music Festival in London, Britney Spears admitted to Dan Wootton on Britain’s ITV that she’s enjoying life way more in her 30s than she did in her 20s.

“I like my thirties way more than my twenties,” the Make Me singer said during the appearance. “My 20s were horrible! [Being] in my teens was fun, but I like my 30s.”

The statement is really no surprise, given the 34-year-old had her fair share of ups and downs in her 20s. The early part of those years saw her release some of her biggest hits like Toxic, Me Against the Music and Everytime.

Then in 2004, she married her childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas at the age of 22, only to have the marriage annulled 55 hours later. That same year, she married her backup dancer, Kevin Federline, who she has two sons with; the pair divorced in 2007.

At 25 years old, she had a breakdown, and went on to shave her head bald, walk streets barefoot, and attack a paparazzo’s car with an umbrella. She eventually checked herself into treatment facilities for drug and alcohol use, and in 2008, her father James Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet were granted permanent conservatorship of her assets.

Spears — who split with Charlie Ebersol after eight months together in June 2015 — also said she’s OK with being single.

“It’s okay to be single!” she said. “I’m in a really good place right now. I’m loving myself every day and learning who I am. It’s awakening, it’s cool.”

While Spears is embracing her age, that doesn’t mean she’s ready for her two boys — Sean Preseton, 11, and Jayden James, 10 — to grow up.

“It’s a little strange because I’m nervous,” Spears admitted. “I know 12 and 13 and 14 and 15, is going to be really scary and I’m going to be like, ‘Mom — please come to the house and help me out here!'”

“But right now it’s a great age,” she added. “They’re still babies!”

During an interview with The Cooper Lawrence Show at 106.1 BLI last month, Spears admitted that she didn’t want her sons to become famous.

“I think the magnitude of it and the fame thing, I don’t think they’ve really comprehended what that would even be like,” she explained. “Hopefully they never will, because its kind of much.”
