Officer injured in machete attack at Marlborough Mall released from hospital: police

Calgary police have confirmed the officer who was injured in an incident at a northeast Calgary mall September 17 has been discharged from hospital.

Police told Global News they do not expect the officer will be returning to duty anytime soon, partially due to his injuries.

Twenty-four-year-old Antonio Philip Bautista was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. Legal Counsel appeared on his behalf as court was told Bautista is still in hospital.

Police reported Bautista was shot by an officer in the Sears store in Marlborough Mall in the middle of the afternoon after Bautista attacked the officer with a  machete.

The case was rescheduled for court November 1.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is continuing to investigate the incident.
