Montreal police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

According to police, the collision happened shortly before 1 p.m. ET Sunday.

Witnesses told police that a pickup truck heading south on St-Urbain Street was attempting a left left-hand turn onto Mont-Royal Avenue when it struck a woman crossing the street.

The woman, 79, was rushed to hospital in critical condition where she later died of her injuries.

Montreal spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière said the driver fled the scene.

Police are looking for a gold 2012 Chevrolet Silverado with damage on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Witness reports indicate the pickup had a fiberglass box with writing that said ELEVATOR 1 INC in red on the sides.

The vehicle had Ontario plate AD13323.
