The BC SPCA has now removed 88 animals from a property in Langley.
The 45 dogs, 18 cats and 24 farm animals and one turtle were seized. Three dead animals were also found on the property.
Chief prevention and enforcement officer for the BC SPCA Marcie Moriarty says they received a complaint about animals in distress on the property and obtained a warrant.
“Our constables and a community veterinarian attended the property and, based on their assessment, we removed a total of 88 animals who met the definition of distress under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and who required immediate care,” said Moriarty.
She notes that the animals are not part of a puppy/cat mill or breeding situation but were seized because of emaciation, malnourishment, severe periodontal disease and other medical issues.
There were also concerns about the condition the animals were being housed in.

Moriarty says the animals needed immediate help, and one of the dogs was in a state of critical distress when found by SPCA animal protection officers.
The dogs and cats seized are being triaged at the Vancouver SPCA shelter and will be assessed to determine on-going treatment. All of the farm animals, which include goats, sheep, hens, roosters, duck, doves, pigeons and a pot-bellied pig, are being treated at the Good Shepherd Barn at BC SPCA’s Surrey Branch.
