Seventeen-year-old Becca Schofield was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago.

Since then she has undergone extensive radiation and chemotherapy and continues to struggle with the effects cancer has caused her.

“I’ve been sick for two years now and I’ve been nauseous everyday pretty much,” explained Schofield. “And I’m still struggling to regain mobility.”

Schofield serves as the Youth Ambassador for the event in her community.

An honour she says she wouldn’t miss for the world.

“If Terry hadn’t done that run, if he hadn’t started all of this, I might not be here,” she said.

More than 425 participants took part in the run, a turnout organizers say is likely the largest they’ve seen.

The huge crowd coming out to show their support is exactly what Schofield says helps keep her going.

“It feels so wonderful I can’t tell you,” said Schofield. “When you go through something like this a big thing is you lose your hope and seeing this gives me hope.”

The organizing committee estimates more than $10,000 was raised by the local run.
