KELOWNA, B.C. – More than 7,000lbs of food is handed out to Central Okanagan families every day from the food bank, making ongoing donations essential to keep families fed.

Organizers are hoping the upcoming Thanksgiving food drive will help fill shelves.

Empty grocery bags from Save-On-Foods will be delivered to Kelowna and West Kelowna homes the week of September 12 – 17, with volunteers picking up filled bags from your front step on the last day, Saturday, September 17.

Financial news and insights delivered to your email every Saturday.

Donations can also be dropped off prior to that date at either community food bank.

Items most needed are cans of chunky-style soup, canned meat and fish, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, rice, whole wheat pasta and sauce, and baby basics like formula.

Last year, volunteers collected over 46,000 pounds of food during the Thanksgiving Food Drive.
