Caught on Camera: Florida woman comes face to face with a curious bear

A Florida woman managed to record her remarkable close encounter with a curious black bear Tuesday in Lake Mary, Florida.

Teliece Sander told local media she was standing in the garage of her home in the Markham Woods area of Seminole County near Orlando, playing games on her phone when she looked up – and noticed a massive black bear was nearby.

“Frightening,” Sander told WTHR News in Florida. “I could move [my phone] a little bit, still breathe a little bit, wasn’t breathing a whole lot.”

Using her phone to capture the encounter, Sander remained still as the curious bear sniffed the air just inches in front of her face.

Terrified to move, she sent a simple text to her son, still inside the home: “Help me.”

Teliece Sander told her son, who is 6’6 and 325 pounds, to join her in the garage. Eventually the bear lost interest and left the Colton’s driveway without incident.

News 6 in Orlando reports that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is attempting to trap the bear seen in this video.

A spokesperson for the commission said that once the bear is trapped officials will “assess and take the most appropriate action to ensure public safety.”
