A Quebec man has appeared in court on six child-pornography charges, including possessing and accessing the material.

Jonathan Bettez, 36, was arraigned in Trois-Rivières, Que. Tuesday morning.

Police arrested Bettez at work Monday morning, raiding his home and a former residence.

The alleged crimes that led to this arrest were between 2009 and 2013.

But Bettez has been linked in the past to an unsolved child abduction case in 2007.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Nine-year-old Cedrika Provencher disappeared in 2007. Her remains were found this past December, about 15 kilometres from the street where she was last seen.

From the first days of the investigation, police were looking for the driver of a red four-door Acura sedan. That is the same make and colour of vehicle Bettez was driving in 2007. He was questioned and released.

Cedrika’s parents were in the courtroom this morning for Bettez’ appearance.

Her father, Martin Provencher, said he has been told Bettez is a suspect in his daughter’s disappearance.

“I know that police asked him to take a polygraph test numerous times,” he said. “He made conditions. (Police) accepted, but he still won’t do it.”

Bettez is not facing any charges related to Cedrika’s death.

He was released Tuesday afternoon pending certain conditions, including posting $5,000 bail and giving up his passport.
