A 26-year-old man was killed and his two parents were injured after the vehicle they were in rear-ended a TTC bus in the north-end of Toronto Tuesday morning.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Warden Avenue and Finch Avenue East.

Toronto Paramedics say the male, who was in the back seat of a red Nissan Versa, was found without vital signs and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver and the front passenger of the vehicle, identified as the man’s 58-year-old father and 52-year-old mother, were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities said the vehicle, which was driven by the mother, was travelling southbound on Warden when it slammed into the back of the TTC bus which had stopped to service passengers.

“Everyone was fine on the bus. The bus driver was shocked and the people on the bus went on their way,” Sgt. Dora Pavlidis told reporters.

Police said the deceased may not have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

“There’s a good possibility that he was not wearing a seat belt. I can tell you that the two front passengers appear to have been wearing a seat belt,” Pavlidis said.

Police said they will look to see if driver error or a mechanical failure may have contributed in the collision.

“The vehicle has been removed. There’s going to be an examination done to it to see if there’s any mechanical issues,” Pavlidis said.

“There’s distracted driving, there’s speeding, there’s so many factors. I can’t tell you if one of those were factors in this case.”

Police are urging any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
