Police investigating alleged assault in Abbotsford park

Abbotsford Police are investigating an alleged assault of a 25-year-old woman that happened in Albert Dyck Park on Thursday afternoon.

The victim told police that she was approached by two men who tried to talk to her in the 31500-block of Walmsley Avenue. Then one man suddenly grabbed the woman around the mouth and face while swearing at her. She was able to break free.

Police said there were several young people who witnessed the incident and told the men to leave the victim alone. The two men then fled the area in a white, hardtop, four-door Jeep SUV (a Cherokee or Patriot model).

The 25-year-old woman also left but then later saw the two suspects and the Jeep they were driving in the area of Clearbrook Road and Hillcrest Avenue.

Both suspects are described as being South Asian, 45 to 55 years old and 6’0″ tall, with one man wearing a black t-shirt and shorts; and the other man was wearing a black t-shirt and shiny basketball or swim shorts.

APD Major Crime Unit detectives are hoping to speak to the young people who intervened and helped the victim as well as any other people who may have witnessed the incident.
