A joke about heart donation has won the Funniest Joke award at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The one-liner came from care worker Masai Graham and went like this:

“So my dad has suggested that I register for a donor card. He’s a man after my own heart.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Graham was announced as the winner by TV station Dave, after winning 27 per cent of a public vote.

With the chances of his profile being increased after the win, Graham said, “Wherever I go from here I’ll go. But I’m not a professional comedian, I’m just a care worker who writes jokes in his spare time. So yeah, it’s just getting better and better. So I’ll just keep doing it till I stop enjoying it, but I don’t really have any plans.”

Previous winners of the competition include Tim Vine and Stewart Francis.
