When it comes to collision repair, it would seem Japanese automotive students are benefiting from Canadian expertise.

It’s part of a 25 partnership between the Japanese Toyota Technical College and Okanagan College.

Automotive students from the Japanese school have been coming to Kelowna for an exchange program at Okanagan College for over two decades.

The Japanese students learn the basics of collision repair from Okanagan College instructors and also spend time studying English.

“It is a great opportunity for our staff and our students to engage in cultural exchange,” said Okanagan College president Jim Hamilton.

The Japanese students get a taste of life in Canada and their Canadian instructors learn more about Japan.

“These guys are as much friends to us as they are students. We really connected over a short period of time,” said instructor Danny Marques.

The program has grown over the years. This year over 100 students attended.
