Salmon Arm RCMP arrested a 28-year-old man in Sorento on Wednesday, following a crime spree in the North Okanagan.
Richard Robert Taylor was recently released on parole in the Lower Mainland.
Police say on July 25, an officer tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 1 in Salmon Arm, but it fled.
It was quickly determined that the car had been reported stolen out of the Falkland area.
Patrols in the area by an RCMP Air Services helicopter and ground units failed to locate the vehicle until a member of the public called and reported the vehicle being driven erratically in the Fly Hills area.
Police found it on a dead end road. As an officer attempted to block the stolen car, it fled, hitting the police cruiser and causing both the stolen car and the police cruiser to end up in the ditch.
The driver then fled on foot.
RCMP searched the area with the help of a police dog, but the driver was not located. An uncooperative passenger was arrested and released the next day.
As a result of further investigations, Richard Robert Taylor was identified by police as the driver of that stolen car. They also found he was the subject of a Canada wide warrant for parole violations.
He was arrested a short time later in Sorento.
Taylor faces charges of possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and uttering threats.
He’s also being investigated in relation to another stolen vehicle, and more stolen property, in the Tappen area.
