The BAPE public hearings on Montreal’s new electric light rail system (REM) will begin Aug. 29 and continue throughout the week as necessary.

The provincial environmental review agency said it will ensure the project is developed and implemented in a sustainable manner with minimum impact to the environment.

The hearings are part of the first step to give the project a green light and ensure the public’s opinions are heard.
At the helm of the project is the Caisse de Dépôt, which is also looking for feedback via its survey.
Summary of the REM project
- 67 kilometres of automated light rail trains
- 24 stations across the island, including Laval and Longueuil
- 20 hours of operation per day, seven days a week
- $5.5 billion (estimated) investment
- Finalization of the project is slated for 2021
BAPE encourages the public to attend the hearings at one of its locations, either in person downtown or via video conference in Baie-D’Urfé, Brossard or Deux-Montagnes.
