Victim of alleged Burnaby road rage attack speaks out about violent assault

Stalked…chased…and beaten. A 20-year-old man’s girlfriend made a stop at a yellow light while turning left on Patterson and Kingsway in Burnaby when the chaotic ordeal began.

“All four of them chasing me down to this lady’s house and they continually beat me in front of a door using their fists, their feet, smashing a pot over my head,” the man, who does not want to be identified because he fears for his safety, described.

The man is the victim of an apparent road rage attack. It started with a display of anger by the driver in the vehicle behind him and his girlfriend, but evolved into a full on assault after the suspect allegedly followed his target home and called for reinforcements.

“He was honking because he was stressing out and because we didn’t go fast enough. If we did, it would be unsafe. We would probably get a ticket or we would have put somebody else in danger,” he added.

When the couple realized they were being followed, they pulled over to an area neighbour’s house, desperately trying to flee from the men. The owner of the house where the alleged assault took place heard screaming and pounding. What happened next, had Ginger Sedlarova fearing for her life.

“It looked like a scene from like an old 40s black and white crime movie.”

Sedlarova saw a handful of men on her lawn. Once she heard the alleged suspects leave, she opened her door to find a bloodied man at her doorstep, asking her to call 911.

It’s believed the men used items on Sedlarova’s porch as a weapons. She found her deceased mother’s crystal ashtray that she used as a flower pot smashed into pieces.

“To hit a pot over someone’s head when they’re already not moving and bleeding everywhere you’d have to be almost completely insane,” the victim said.

Despite being badly beaten, the victim had one thing on his mind.

“I grabbed all the energy I had to go over back to my girlfriend to see if she was OK and she was.”

“Actually, it’s quite sweet. Only then did he allow himself to pass out once he knew she was safe,” said Sedlarova.

Burnaby RCMP confirm they are investigating an incident, but would not provide further details.
