WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added Clarence Denmark to their practice roster, marking the receiver’s return to Winnipeg.

Denmark played five seasons with the Bombers before being released this past March. The 30-year-old American caught 306 passes for 4,165 yards and 16 touchdowns during his first stint with the club including 57 catches for 718 yards and three touchdowns last year. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2014 after finishing with the second most receiving yards in the league.

“I got the call (to come back to Winnipeg) and I didn’t believe it was real at the time,” said Denmark.

“I knew I still wanted to play so I made sure I was ready in case the opportunity comes. To have an opportunity taken away, you get hungry for another shot. Next time you get on the field you give it everything you have.”

He may not have to wait long to get plucked off Winnipeg’s practice roster. The Bombers will be without their two top receivers for some time. Darvin Adams will be out six to seven weeks with an upper-body injury. Weston Dressler meanwhile will miss a few weeks after suffering a lower-body injury. Both players were hurt in Thursday’s win over the Edmonton Eskimos. Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea though isn’t concerned about replacing the pair.

“We’ve got guys that have some playing time already,” said O’Shea. “We brought in Denmark. Kris Adams is coming off the six-game (injured list). Addison Richards is coming off the six-game. Julian Feoli-Gudino is ready to go. I think we’ve got a fair complement of guys that have been around since training camp that we’re not going to have a problem fielding a good group.”
