Two people were taken to hospital after a shooting during an outdoor fitness class in Christie Pits Park, near Bloor and Christie Streets, in Toronto Saturday morning.
One of the victims is a 35-year-old fitness instructor who sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The second victim, a 20-year-old-male, sustained minor injuries after being hit with a stray bullet to the foot.
Toronto police have released photos of the suspect.
He is described as having a dark complexion, short cornrows, appearing 25-30 years-old, a thin build and standing 5’8”-5’9″. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie with a white logo in the centre, black sweat pants with a light logo on left front hip area, light-coloured running shoes, and dark sunglasses with gold trim on the arms.
A photo of the suspect was released by police.
Police are asking the public to not approach the suspect as he is considered to be armed and dangerous.
“There were a large amount of witnesses that were involved,” said Const. Craig Brister.
“There was a fitness class that was on-going at the time and we were able to confirm that the first victim was involved in that class.”
One witness spoke with Global News saying the incident happened approximately 45 minutes into a boot camp class in Christie Pits Park.
Police say it is still not confirmed on if this was a targeted shooting.
“Right now I’m not willing to speculate as to what the motivation of the shooting was or whether or not he was targeted,” Brister said.
“Investigators are still in the very early parts of the investigation.”
Toronto police said the suspect is still at large.
