A Calgary auto dealer appears to be taking a swipe at recent tax increases by the Alberta NDP government.
Lexus of Calgary took out a half-page advertisement in the Calgary Herald newspaper Thursday, promoting a so-called “N.D.P. event.”
They are offering a “special savings event to help compensate for the increased tax on oil, gas, business income, personal income, homes and property.”
“The reason is to create conversation, awareness of our Lexus product and raise money for a good cause, the Calgary Homeless Foundation,” Lexus general manager Steve Normore told Global News. “Ultimately the letters N.D.P being a great platform for NEW. DEMO. PRE-OWNED. No NDP affiliation.”
Normore called it nothing more than a “tongue in cheek thought.”
“There’s too many federal and provincial tax policies affecting our Alberta economy and its residents.”
Five hundred dollars from every vehicle sold will be donated to the Calgary Homeless Foundation.
Requests for comment from the offices of Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and Finance Minister Joe Ceci were not answered by publication time Thursday.
