The Arizona Coyotes have signed defenseman Michael Stone of Winnipeg to a one-year contract.
Stone, 26, scored six goals with a career high 30 assists in 75 games last season. His 36 points were also a new career high, while registering a team best 143 blocked shots.
“We are very happy to have Michael back,” said Coyotes general manager John Chayka through a media release. “He had a breakthrough year for us last season and we are confident that he will fully recover from his injury and that he will play an important role for us.”
Stone underwent knee surgery back in April.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but numerous reports indicate the new contract will pay Stone $4 million for the 2016-17 season. Stone was scheduled to go to salary arbitration, and with the one-year bridge deal, Stone will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The Coyotes originally drafted Stone in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Michael is the older brother of Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone.
