RCMP said two people were killed after the unloaded gravel truck they were travelling in went over an embankment near Jack Fish Lake, west of Rocky Mountain House Wednesday.

They said the crash happened at 2:20 p.m. on Highway 11.

According to police, it appears the vehicle was headed west when a tire blew out, causing it to go over an embankment and into some trees before landing in a creek.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene when emergency crews arrived.

On Thursday, RCMP said one of the victims was a 68-year-old Drayton Valley man while the other was a 65-year-old man from the Breton area.

Mounties said investigators remained at the scene Wednesday afternoon.
