WINNIPEG — The federal government will make $178 million available for infrastructure projects in Manitoba.
The funding is part of the Liberal’s campaign promise to invest billions in local infrastructure across the country.
The money will be allocated to two new federal programs – the Public Transit Fund, the Canadian Water and Wastewater Fund.
A list of 27 projects has been approved under those two new programs.
The federal government, the province and municipalities will jointly fund $205 million for those 27 projects. The federal share will be nearly $102 million.
Of those dollars, around $53 million of federal money and $26 million of provincial money will go towards four projects that will improve Winnipeg Transit facilities and allow for the purchasing of new buses.
The rest of the cash will go towards rural water and waste water projects.
This funding is part of Phase One of the federal government’s infrastructure plan.
The details of Phase Two have yet to be announced but are expected to include spending on roads and highways.
