Heat wave to hit Metro Vancouver this week

Hot weather is finally arriving in Metro Vancouver this week, just in time for the B.C. Day long weekend.

Despite a wet and cool start to the month, July will end with warm temperatures reaching above 30 C in the Fraser Valley and 29 C in Vancouver.

Temperatures will gradually increase this week with Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday being the warmest days. At Vancouver International Airport, the mercury will hit 27 C by Wednesday and 29 C on Thursday.

The heat will continue on Friday with a high of 28 C and a low of 17 C.

Global BC meteorologist Michael Kuss says the week will start off feeling hot and humid in Vancouver.

“Today and Tuesday will also be unusually humid. Humidex readings will range from 29 to 33 C across the lower mainland. Finally, for the heat seekers, the Okanagan will feel like it should this summer with temperatures in the 30’s all week.”

Elsewhere in the province, the heat will peak in the mid-30s.

Osoyoos is expected to reach 36 C by Friday, Kelowna will hit 33 C, and Whistler will see temperatures of 29 C.

On Vancouver Island, Tofino will also be warm at 28 C and Port Alberni is expected to scorch at 33 C. Victoria will stay much cooler at only 22 C.

No rain is expected in Metro Vancouver for the remainder of the week. Temperatures across the region are expected to cool to the low-2os into the weekend.
