Kelowna RCMP were called to Central Kitchen and Bar on Ellis Street on Friday around 11:40 a.m., according to Cpl. Tania Carroll.

“The investigation to date reveals that the fire was intentionally set directly below the gas metre on the outside of the building,” she said in a news release.

The pub/restaurant is located inside the Sunplex indoor sports facility, which was forced to evacuate due to the fire.

“The fire was contained and extinguished by the Kelowna Fire Department and was located at the rear of the building,” Carroll said.

No one was injured and there wasn’t any damage to the business.

“The damage was contained to the gas line and meter as well as some paint damage to the adjacent building,” Carroll said.

Police are looking for a man who was seen in the area. He is described as a heavy set Caucasian man, about six feet tall with black hair.

He was reported to be wearing a red bandanna with a white pattern that covered most of his face, carrying a large hiking backpack and wearing a blue over gray hooded rain-type jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
