Winnipeg diver claims silver medal at Junior Nationals

WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg diver won a silver medal at the Speedo Junior Elite National Championships on Friday at the Pan Am Pool.

Mara George finished in second place in the 1-metre springboard event on day two of the championships. Mara was in second place after the preliminary round after she scored 416.50 in the prelims. She improved her score to 436.65 in the finals to win the silver medal. The 18-year-old is a member of the Revolution Diving Club.

“Going into the finals, Mara was nervous but excited,” said coach Dallas Ludwick in a media release. “She handled the pressure beautifully and performed even better than she did in the prelims. We are all so proud of her.”

George will be gunning for another medal tomorrow in the 3-metre springboard event. The preliminary round begins at 9:00 a.m. with the finals scheduled for 3:50 p.m.
