Calgary police have charged two men in connection with a violent liquor store robbery last month that resulted in one man being shot.

It happened in the 5400 block of Temple Drive N.E. on June 24.

Police said two men entered the store just before 11:50 p.m., at which time one attempted to steal a bottle of alcohol by concealing it in his waistband.

Store staff locked the front doors before the men were able to leave, sparking an argument.

According to investigators, the argument became physical, with one of the suspects throwing a bottle at a staff member – and another staff member hitting a suspect on the head with a bat.

“At some point during the altercation, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and fired a shot at one of the clerks, striking him in the arm,” police said in a Wednesday news release. “He then fired several more shots at the door to get out of the store.”
