A Syrian family now settled in Vancouver is hoping the kindness of strangers will come through for them once again.
In less than 48 hours, Mahmood Qawras, his wife Asmaa, and their three young children all have to leave the home they’ve come to know and love.
The problems started last Saturday when 20 millimeters of rain fell during the weekend.
Water flowed through the front door, down the hall and right into the children’s bedroom.
The family now has to find a place to stay for the next four weeks while the floor is ripped up and replaced.
“I’m very concerned, very concerned about where we’re going to end up while the place is getting fixed,” said Asmaa through a translator.
For the past six months, Janet Martini has been helping the family of Government Assisted Syrian refugees.
She helped them find their apartment, but now she’s asking for help to find the family a temporary home while the unit is under repair.
“They’re very gracious and…they need help. They really need help,” said Martini.
For now, she will be putting the family up in a nearby motel, but she can only afford the first week.
