WINNIPEG — From the sudden popularity of Pokémon Go, to a fish fly invasion in rural Manitoba, a lot happened in the province this week. If you were on vacation or missed a news story, here are the top five stories Global News covered in Manitoba:

Pokémon Go craze

Global’s Adrian Cheung breaks down the Pokémon phenomenon that has video fanatics running into each other on Winnipeg streets. The game uses augmented reality on people’s cellphones to play; in single week, it has already gathered millions of downloads.

The game even had Manitoba RCMP and Winnipeg Police taking to Twitter to remind players they shouldn’t be playing while driving.

Fish flies take over

Flannel crosswalk

1:23 Rags used to alert pedestrians busy crosswalk not working

Pieces of what appeared to be flannel shirts were covering the crosswalk buttons over one of Winnipeg’s busiest streets Thursday morning, in a possible attempt to alert pedestrians the crosswalk signals were not working.

Thelma Krull update

1:40 Winnipeg police say it’s possible Thelma Krull was abducted

For the first time Winnipeg police have pointed to the possibility Thelma Krull was abducted one-year-ago Monday.

Homicide investigators said Monday they don’t use the word “abduction” lightly but events point to that as one possibility in her disappearance.

Police also released a photo of a woman in purple who was in the area Krull was last seen on July 11, 2015.

Church fire

0:48 Main Street church suffers extensive smoke damage from fire

A two-alarm fire at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral on Main Street caused extensive smoke damage to the building Thursday evening.

Police said the fire is deemed suspicious in nature and the arson unit is investigating.
