Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several areas south of Calgary late Sunday afternoon.
The warning was issued shortly before 5:30 p.m. for the M.D. of Foothills near High River, Aldersyde,Okotoks, De Winton, Priddis, Brown-Lowery Provincial Park, Turner Valley and Black Diamond.
Environment Canada said its meteorologists were following severe thunderstorms that could see strong wind gusts, nickel-size hail and heavy rain accompany them. The agency also said there was a risk of “localized flash flooding.”
The warning called on people to take precautions and avoid driving through water on roads.
Several other areas in southern Alberta were put under a severe thunderstorm watch.
