RCMP safety reminder after 9-year-old cyclist hit by vehicle in Revelstoke

REVELSTOKE — A nine-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

The girl was riding her bike through a marked crosswalk on Fourth Street in Revelstoke on Wednesday when she was hit by a vehicle in the intersection.

Police, who were called to the scene around 7:15 p.m., say she was wearing a helmet.

“She had struck the hood of the vehicle,” said Staff Sgt Kurt Grabinsky in a news release.

Grabinsky says the driver of the vehicle was issued a ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and attention.

“Emergency services personnel wish to remind drivers to be aware of cyclists and pedestrians and to always drive with caution,” said Grabinsky.

“Cyclists are reminded to always wear bike helmets, make yourselves visible and follow the rules of the road.”
