KELOWNA–The 2016 NHL entry draft in Buffalo included four Kelowna Rockets.
After defenceman Lucas Johansen was picked in the first round by the Washington Capitals (28th overall) on Friday night, three more Rockets were selected on Saturday in the closing rounds of the draft.
Dillon Dube went to Calgary in the second round.
“It was pretty cool sitting at home with my family and being able to be selected by the hometown team, I don’t think it gets better than that,” says Dube, whose family lives about 30 minutes from the Saddledome in Calgary.
Calvin Thurkauf from Switzerland was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the seventh round, and defenceman Braydyn Chizen was drafted by the Minnesota Wild.
“Well that was interesting,” tweeted Chizen after being picked. “(I’m) Very honoured to be part of the Minnesota Wild organization. Can’t wait to get it started.”
