Lucas Johansen, a defenceman with the WHL Kelowna Rockets, was selected with the 28th pick by the Washington Capitals at the NHL Entry Draft Friday.

Johansen played 65 games in the 2015-16 season and had a 49-point season.

It’s been 12 years since two B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) players have been among the top 30 draft picks at the NHL Entry Draft but that’s what happened in Buffalo, N.Y., Friday.

The Penticton Vees saw their captain Tyson Jost selected 10th overall by the Colorado Avalanche while Dante Fabbro was chosen 17th overall by the Nashville Predators.
