After much deliberation, the Calgary Flames got their goalie and acquired Brian Elliott from the St. Louis Blues for the Flames’ second round pick (35th overall) and a conditional draft pick in 2018.

The announcement came down during the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft that started in Buffalo Friday night.

Elliott helped lead the Blues to the Western Conference Final this past season for the first time since 2000-2001.

He has one year remaining on his contract before becoming a unrestricted free agent.

The 31-year-old from Newmarket, Ont. played 41 regular season games for St. Louis in 2015-16.

He’s ranked in the NHL’s top five in goals-against average (2.07) and save percentage (.930) with a record of 23-8-2.

Elliott spent the past five seasons with the Blues and made 18 appearances in the playoffs.

He was drafted by Ottawa in 2003 and has also played for Colorado.

Elliott has played 323 career games, going 165-99-32 with a 2.40 gaa and .914 save percentage.

The Calgary Flames also selected Matthew Tkachuk with sixth overall pick at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo.

Tkachuk was one of the key members of the London Knights’ dominant Memorial Cup-winning team this season, finishing fifth in Ontario Hockey League scoring with 107 points in 57 games.

Tkachuk, an 18-year-old from Scottsdale, Ariz., lined up mostly alongside Christian Dvorak, a Coyotes prospect, and Mitch Marner, a Maple Leafs prospect, on an always threatening Knights top line.

The left winger is the son of long-time NHL power winger Keith Tkachuk.

Last Friday, The Calgary Flames announced that Glen Gulutzan, former bench boss for the Dallas Stars, would serve as the team’s new head coach.
