A Toronto PhD student was despondent after having her bike stolen, but then saw a photo online allegedly showing a suit-wearing thief in the middle of nabbing her ride.
Rebecca Metcalfe felt the loss of her reliable two-wheeler “Kirby” hard.
“I really miss my bike…loved him a lot,” Metcalfe said. “Yeah, I called him Kirby,” she added with a laugh.
It was the second time the bicycle had been ripped off.
But she got a surprise when a picture of a suspect allegedly in the act of cutting Kirby’s lock popped up on the popular Facebook group Bunz Trading Zone. The photo went viral.
“I thought it was surreal – here it was happening again,” Metcalfe said.
She reported the theft and suspect photo to police.
Then, on Tuesday, she was walking along the street when she saw a man from the photo being arrested.
“I look and I think hey — it looks lot like the guy who stole my bike!” she alleged.
The suit and tie suspect was arrested and charged in numerous bike thefts.
Metcalfe is still waiting for her bike to be found.
