A large home on the edge of the city was destroyed by a large house fire Friday.
The owner of the home, Dr. Wequar Ahmed, said around 7:30 p.m. his two teenage kids were at home in the community of Watermark when his older son smelled smoke and opened the garage door to see a wall of flames.
He called 911 and he and his sister were able to escape without injury.
The home is just north of the city limits in Bearspaw County and not serviced by the Calgary Fire Department.
Instead, crews from Rocky View Fire responded while neighbours attempted to hold off the flames with garden hoses and a pressure washer.
The house was completely engulfed when crews arrived.
The fire chief suggests the home on Spyglass Way is a complete writeoff.
Ahmed said his family has been living at the residence fire about three years and had built it as their dream home.
The house next door was saved but received some smoke damage and broken windows.
