WATCH ABOVE: Over 100 firefighters were called to battle a blaze as it tore through an apartment building in Montreal's Outremont borough Friday afternoon – Jun 17, 2016

A fire tore through two connected apartment buildings in Outremont Friday afternoon, destroying almost all the property inside, from the cellar to the roof.

There were no fatalities and fire officials said the only injury reported was a firefighter taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

According to Battalion Chief John Primiani, the blaze started in the north building’s cellar.

“As we came in on the call, the whole roof was engulfed in flames,” Primiani said.

Residents nearby said the building has had a faulty transformer that has shorted in the past and that most homes in the area use natural gas but officials said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

“We have no idea how it started yet,” Primiani said

It took firefighters about an hour and a half to get the fire under control.

The building contains about eight residences.
