City officials in Toronto are aiming to drastically curb the number of traffic fatalities and injuries by releasing a new plan it hopes will set the ground work for improved pedestrian safety.
Councillor Jaye Robinson, who chairs the public works committee, is scheduled to release details of a new road safety plan Monday morning.
The action plan will target road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorists as well as improving school zones and designating “pedestrian priority zones.”
For over a year, Robinson has been spearheading an effort to create a city-wide Road Safety Strategic Plan that would highlight measures based on the Sweden-based initiative called Vision Zero.
The new plan will be reviewed by the city’s executive committee next week and brought to council for a final vote next month.
