Central Alberta man charged with sexual assault with a weapon, uttering threats

RED DEER, Alta. – A central Alberta man with a history of threatening women has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon.

RCMP say a 29-year-old woman was attacked in April in downtown Red Deer.

Daniel Leonard, who is 38, also faces a charge of uttering threats.

Police say he was already in custody for a parole violation when he was charged.

Leonard has been remanded pending a July 20 court date.

In 2014 Leonard was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault involving two women near the University of Alberta.
