WINNIPEG — While Friday afternoon in parts of southern Manitoba were feeling more like the tropics, that weather will be departing just as quickly as it arrived.

The humidex rating in Winnipeg reached 35 by mid-afternoon with temperatures that will continue to be muggy into the evening, much like it was Thursday night.

There was a tornado warning issued by Environment Canada just after 6 p.m. with reports of a funnel cloud but no tornadoes were reported Thursday.

Winnipeg didn’t see as much rain as other parts of the province or the severity of storms that swept through parts of the south.

Heavy rain was reported in Selkirk measuring 37 millimetres that fell in less than an hour.

Winds were also high in some regions with gusts up to 96 km/h in Killarney, and 93 km/h in Somerset.

In Winnipeg no more than 4 mm of rain fell in various parts of the city.

If you’re hoping for a light show in the sky like Thursday night – that won’t be the case for Friday night either.

We can expect a cool down for the weekend unfortunately. A high of 22 Celsius on Saturday is forecast and more rain headed our way on Sunday with a high of 17 C.

Things are turning around for the week ahead though with above seasonal temperatures and dry conditions.
