The more dogs wearing a bandana, the merrier at South Glenmore Park Saturday at the 15th annual Dog Jog.
The Calgary Humane Society was attempting to break a previous Guinness World Record of 764 dogs wearing bandanas set by the Australian SPCA in 2015.
They not only broke it but set the bar much higher, with a record 813 dogs sporting colourful kerchiefs and showing support at the fundraiser event.
The Dog Jog is a non-competitive walk/run where people take their canine around a course to help raise awareness, but also to raise funds for the Calgary Humane Society.
“We put a shout out and just asked everyone who typically comes to Dog Jog, and we usually get about five to seven hundred people, to tell their friends, to tell their family – ‘get as many dogs as you could.’ We unofficially beat that record today with 813 dogs,” Sage Pullen McIntosh from the Calgary Humane Society said.
The course kicked off from the west end of South Glenmore Park and from there the route follows city pathways along the Glenmore Reservoir.
This year, a portion of the registration fees were also donated directly to registered charities helping animals impacted by the Fort McMurray wildfires.
