Full subway service on the Bloor-Danforth line between St. George and Pape has resumed following a fire at Bloor-Yonge station.

The Toronto Transit Commission says 90 shuttle buses were dispatched to help commuters through the busy transit corridor during the morning rush hour.

TTC CEO Andy Byford said smoke was reported at Yonge station around 5 a.m. which was linked to a “smouldering” power cable.

“Whenever smoke incidents happen in the TTC, we take no chances,” said Byford. “We would never put customers at risk.”

The fire was quickly extinguished but crews remained on scene to replace around 18 metres of damaged cable.

There’s still no word on what caused the fire but an image posted on social media by TTC spokesman Brad Ross showed the source of the fire.

“The other crews are walking up and down the tunnel checking the switches and signals,” Byford explained.

Byford said two TTC employees suffered minor smoke inhalation and declined medical assistance.

Additional trains were added on the Yonge-University-Spadina Line to supplement service for the duration of the morning.
