Ridge Meadows RCMP confirm a man’s body has been pulled from the Fraser River along the Haney Bypass in Maple Ridge Tuesday morning.

Foul play has not been ruled out at this time and details of the man’s death are not yet being released.

Police say the call came in at about 3:15 a.m. and first responders rushed to the scene at the Haney Bypass and 225 Street.

The man was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. Police are still looking for a watercraft they believe the man was on or in when the incident happened this morning.

A few witnesses who were working in the area at the time of the incident told Global News they saw some type of watercraft on the Fraser River and said the person was “zigzagging around and speeding.”

It is not yet known if the person they saw was the same person who was pulled from the river Tuesday morning.

The Independent Investigations Office was also called in as they are required to investigate when police officers are at a scene of an incident when a person has died.
